Mean, Median, Mode, Range Calculator
Compute the four classical descriptive statistics — mean (average), median (middle value), mode (most frequent value), and range (max − min) — from a list of numbers. Paste any list separated by commas, spaces, semicolons, or newlines.
Your Result
-
| Result | What it means? |
|---|---|
| — | Insufficient data At least two numbers are required to compute mean, median, mode, and range meaningfully. |
| 2 – 5 | Small sample (2 – 5) A handful of values. The mode in particular is unreliable with so few points. |
| 6 – 20 | Typical sample (6 – 20) A reasonable working sample for a class assignment or quick sanity check. |
| ≥ 21 | Large sample (≥ 21) A larger sample. Mean and median become more stable; mode may surface clear clusters. |
| — | No result The input was empty or contained no valid numbers. |
How it works
=
Mean = (sum of values) ÷ count. Median = the middle value (or the average of the two middles for an even count). Mode = the most frequent value(s); shown as "—" when every value is unique. Range = max − min.
- Numbers are parsed from any run of separators (comma, semicolon, whitespace, new line). Tokens that do not parse as a finite number are silently ignored.
- When several values share the highest frequency, all of them are returned — e.g. input "1, 2, 2, 3, 3" reports mode "2, 3".
This calculator evaluates basic descriptive statistics entirely in your browser. It does not store or transmit your input. Results are estimates based on the numbers you provide and should not be used as a substitute for professional statistical software.
